This post may be controversial. Without getting into the global warming debate and the morality discussion about the future of the world, as Helen Lovejoy would say, “wont somebody please think about the children“, but the below chart show the development of two African nations and their CO2 footprint.
The easiest way to increase economic conditions in a nation is to mobilize cheap energy for the population. Until renewables are cheaper than coal or oil the fastest way developing nations can exit poverty is to expand their CO2 footprint. It would be hypocritical for the west to tell the rest of the world they cannot follow this model. For this reason I believe the hydrocarbon age will continue longer than some believe.
